On Wednesday February9, 2023, the newly appointed Chief Inspector of Courts, Hon. Justice Stephen Musota met with the Registrars running the operations of the Inspectorate at his Chambers at the Supreme Court, Nakasero.
The Inspector of Courts, HW Kwizera Amos led the three-member team that had Deputy Inspectors; HW Angualia Moses Gabriel and HW Sempala Dorothy Lwanga.
The purpose of the meeting was to share ideas in regards to the execution of the Inspectorate’s mandate, activities, performance, plans, achievements and challenges.
In the previous two quarters, the Inspectorate inspected 63 courts, registered 281 complaints, disposed of 274 and currently has seven pending cases.
The Registrars also reported on the progress of the Judiciary plans to decentralize the Inspectorate to regions, the formation of the Integrity Committee and drafting of the Anti-Corruption Strategy.
HW Kwizera appreciated the Judiciary administration for its support. "...Because of the Judiciary Top Management support, we now have sufficient finances and vehicles to facilitate inspection activities," he said.
The only challenges he noted were staffing gaps and inadequate office space. To boost capacity of the Inspectorate, it was reported that this quarter, a fully funded training in investigating skills has been organized for the Inspectors.
As part of his workplan, the Chief Inspector is set to commence his field visits at different courthouses and stations this month.
Part of his mandate is to receive, investigate and evaluate complaints from the public against judicial officers and non-judicial staff.
